Spring Break Out West?

By: Corley Williams

Spring break is finally here! After a draining first half of the semester, it is insane that the time of beach trips and spending time with family is finally upon us. However, not all students in the College of Ag are spending their spring break the same way. This year nearly 50 students will be headed west with Dr. Greene and the animal science department for a unique spring break trip.

This trip is annual, but the locations vary and with some covid restrictions the past few years it will be a great new experience for many in attendance. This year’s students will begin their trip by heading first to Oklahoma City then to Texas where they will experience everything from meeting with industry leaders to touring some of the largest stockyards in the country. Students will even get to brand the cadillacs at Cadillac Ranch with Auburn logos. Who wouldn’t want to do that?

With these unique opportunities students can leave the week-long trip with great connections across the nation, possible internships, and even the option for a job later down the line. By these students choosing to spend spring break on this trip, they have set themselves up for success by gathering a new experience they can use going forward.

Along with this, the students that go on the trip get to make lifelong connections with some of their professors and their peers. This will be extremely beneficial for students going forward when they need a reference from a professor or when a bond with another student opens a door to their career.

Connections and experiences like this trip will last a lifetime for these students. These students get a break from the craziness of school just like everyone else, but they are truly making the most of it. So, next year if there is a chance to go and take advantage of this trip, instead of heading to the beach, take it. You never know what may come of a trip like this..
