With my upcoming graduation, this will be my last newsletter as Senior Editor. I have worked with the best team in Ag Hill Communications and could not have made it without their dedication and hard work. I have learned so much during my time in this role and can’t wait to use this knowledge in my career.

The College of Agriculture at Auburn University could be considered one of the building blocks for what makes the school what it is today. With students coming and going for the past 150 years, the college has a great reputation.
Derek Taunton is a Career Counselor at the Auburn University Career Center. Through the Career Center, Taunton helps students with many aspects of professional development including selecting a major, researching career opportunities, resume and cover letter writing, job search techniques and interview skills. Professional development is the advancement of skills, experiences and knowledge in a specific field to advance your career.
Animal Nutrition takes many forms. It is a multifaceted career that allows one to learn many skills and work with different animals. “Here, we manufacture feed for a variety of species. We do horses, cattle, deer, fish and dairy,” Jimmy Hughes said.
The Department of Animal Sciences at Auburn University has many tracks to offer students wanting to pursue a career in animal science. The animal science major is divided into four tracks: animal and allied industries, equine science, meat science and pre-vet/pre-professional.
Agriculture.
An industry that most people think of as just the countless hours spent in a field or on a tractor by a hard-working farmer just trying to make a living.
Lamar Vann was born and raised in Springville, Alabama. He loves his hometown and has always wanted a career that allowed him to continue living there. Although he knew he wanted to pursue a career in agriculture, he did not know what path to go down.
Many students' love for agriculture begins in the fourth grade when they join their school’s 4-H club for the first time. 4-H sparks many students’ interest in agriculture and can even influence what major they pick in college.
With agriculture continuing to develop, the importance of public relations within the field is growing more and more. Representation in each agriculture field is vital to its success. Someone who knows all about this is Sarah-Beth Allred, the Social Media Specialist for the College of Agriculture at Auburn University.
Horticulture and the outdoors have long been part of the life of Auburn graduate Chandler Pritchett; from an Okra patch on his grandparents’ farm, to working on small row crop farms, to becoming the Garden center Manager of University Ace Hardware at East University Drive, Auburn Alabama.
The poultry industry is one of the most prominent sectors of farming today in the United States (U.S.). The U.S. is the world’s leading producer of chicken. Nearly 9 billion chickens are killed every year in the US, and there are distinct production chains for meat and eggs.
Besides being big business, agriculture touches almost every aspect of people’s lives. From the farmer to the consumer, agriculture issues need a voice. Luckily, Russ Durrance, legislative programs director for the Alabama Farmers Federation, is one of those voices in Alabama.
