The newest addition to campus dining has been a hit with students and Auburn community members.
The Hey Day Market on South College Street, a food hall and gathering place, was created as a part of the new Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center (RCSC).
According to the RCSC website, “The Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center at Auburn University stands to prepare graduates for an array of careers within the broad hospitality industry with immersive, hands-on learning opportunities, while also providing exceptional service to patrons visiting the facility’s state-of-the-art restaurant, hotel and food hall.”
This new facility opened August 16 and is named after the Auburn tradition “Hey Day” that dates back to World War II . This tradition originated when students who served in the war were returning home to Auburn and felt unseen and unheard., This prompted the Student Government Association to push for a day to unite the student body and promote the Auburn Family environment.
The Hey Day market is a 10,000 square-foot facility, “designed with budding chefs and entrepreneurs in mind, the Hey Day Market will celebrate fresh cuisine and cultivate an atmosphere of creative innovation,” as said on the RCSC website.
Inside the market there are incredible views of the green space and plenty of individual and communal tables. Auburn University students can also use their declining balance dollars and Tiger Club cards here.
There are nine vendors that are preparing meals onsite plus a full-service bar and coffee roastery:
Khoodles- Malaysian street noodles inspired by family recipes. Features noodle, rice bowls and boba tea drinks.
La Cubanita- Pressed Cuban sandwiches and traditional Cuban drinks.
Little Darling Burger Co.- Classic, all-American food including burgers, sandwiches, fries, house-made dipping sauces and milkshakes.
